When a camera inspection is worth it
- Before buying a home, especially an older one with mature trees
- Clogs that keep coming back after snaking
- After a basement backup, to find the cause
- Before landscaping, a renovation or a basement development
- Gurgling, slow drains or sewage smells with no obvious cause
What the camera can show
- Tree roots growing in through joints
- Cracks, breaks or collapsed sections
- Offset or separated joints
- Sags (low spots) where water and waste sit
- Grease, scale or debris buildup
- Objects that shouldn't be in the line
How it works
A waterproof camera on a flexible push cable goes in through the cleanout and travels along the line while I watch the live picture. The inspection is $199 and includes video, so you can see what's in your line for yourself.
If the line is plugged, snaking and camera together are $399, so the camera can go through right after the line is cleared.
If there's damage
I clear clogs and inspect. I don't do pipe replacement. If the camera finds a broken pipe, the footage lets a licensed plumber quote the repair accurately.
